Cavitations and My Dental Health

Posted by on May 31, 2012 in Cherries On Top, Dental | 23 comments

I keep trying to write a comprehensive blog post about dental health but I make them too broad and get bogged down in the details so instead I will write about my own current dental health and try to keep from getting too big. I see a holistic dentist who understands about the importance of removing dental amalgams safely. In fact that is why I started to see him in the first place. I wanted someone who understood the risks involved in having and removing mercury from the mouth. At this point I still have most of my amalgams. I got 6 of them over 20 years ago as a teenager when I had braces. Not nearly as many as some people but still far more than zero. When my younger daughter was a infant my dentist noticed decay...

The Power of Kombucha (and sugar!)

Posted by on May 28, 2012 in GAPS, healing, Kids | 10 comments

I have two short stories from my family today to share about Kombucha and the power of ferments. And the negative power of sugar even after 2.5 years of healing on GAPS! (What is GAPS?) Usually my family can’t tolerate Kombucha.  We do love it but it doesn’t love us.  However sometimes it is just exactly what we need.  Thankfully I made some up a while ago.  I had some sitting in a swing top bottle in the basement (not in the fridge) from January.  I haven’t been able to drink it so it just sat there and I prayed that it wouldn’t explode!  Who can give fridge space to something you can’t consume in a GAPS kitchen! This morning I woke up with a very specific back ache/weakness that I have had many times before. It hurts up...

Be Young Essential Oils Memorial Day sale!

Posted by on May 28, 2012 in Cherries On Top, essential oils, expired sale | 0 comments

I have shared about my experiences with Be Young essential oils in the past (Intro to essential oils and Mint Essential Oil).  I continue to use their single oils and blends to bring health to myself and my family.  Most recently we are using a lot of lavender essential oil.  We used it to cure pink eye in my husband and on some cat scratches on my daughter.  These Be Young oils are strong!  I was telling the friend about my husbands reaction to the lavender eo application to heal his pink eye and she said “your oils must be much stronger than the ones I am used to using”. Yes!  These essential oils are pure, strong and effective! Right now Be Young is having an amazing sale.  Well you can see for yourself.  But look below this to see how you...

Low Oxalate produce in season now!

Posted by on May 23, 2012 in Cherries On Top, GAPS, Low Oxalate, St Louis | 31 comments

Photo by Joe Mabel [GFDL or CC-BY-SA-3.0], via Wikimedia Commons   One of the hardest things about following a Low Oxalate Diet (LOD) is knowing what foods are safe to eat. (For those who don’t know about oxalates please see my post What are Oxalates?) There is no one group, like leafy greens, that you can just avoid based on what they look like and know you are safe.  You need to go food by food and sometimes even variety by variety.  Also for some foods preparation methods can greatly improve their oxalate profile, while for others it doesn’t have much of an impact. So if you are hitting the farmers markets and shopping from local farms you need to know what you can eat.  Right now leafy greens are everywhere and so are berries.  Spring is the season!  While you can’t eat...
